About this place
Not sure where to start? Try the Shangs Blend, named for the café. It brings together Brazilian, Ethiopian Yirgacheffe, Guatemalan and Mandheling beans, balancing coffee-like bitterness, sweetness and body with a softer character. The Mild Blend keeps bitterness restrained, with citrusy acidity and a nutty aroma. The dark-roasted Strong Blend offers clean bitterness and sweetness, with a subtle fruitiness. There is a blend to suit different preferences.
For a taste of how origin and processing affect a coffee, try the natural-processed Ethiopian Yirgacheffe. The beans are sun-dried with the coffee cherries intact, giving the cup a fruit-like character. The cold-brew mocha uses the same natural-processed Yirgacheffe beans. It has a smooth mouthfeel, peach-tea-like aroma, and fruit-derived acidity and sweetness. One customer who ordered the cold brew commented that it was easy to find beans to suit their taste. Other options include café latte and Café Mazagran, a coffee cocktail combining lemon-flavoured vodka with Ethiopian espresso.
Pair your coffee with a batard sandwich or something sweet. Sandwich fillings include dry-cured ham and tomato, smoked chicken marinade, and mushrooms and cheese; one menu lets you choose a combination of 2 types. The Vegetable & Omelet sandwich, with tomato and lettuce, is a meat-free option. Sweets include cheesecake, affogato and coffee jelly, while a cookie menu lets you choose 2 pieces. One customer who tried the coffee jelly wished it came in a larger portion, so it may suit those looking for a light sweet bite.
This café serves breakfast and brunch, with dine-in available. It is described as having a quiet atmosphere and being suitable for solo diners. You can stop in for a coffee or make a meal of it with a sandwich.
